Big Boy was picked up as a stray almost a year ago by another rescue. However, due to an overabundance of animals in need in the area he was overlooked by potential adopters for far too long. Charming Canela has already lived quite the story for such a young pup. Originally picked up as a stray in a big southern city, she was brought to an animal shelter where it seemed she had found her happily ever after. But life had other plans — about a year and a half later, Canela was found wandering the streets once again. Thin, in need of care, and clearly having spent too long on her own, she returned to the shelter where staff helped her begin to heal. As shelter numbers rose and options ran out, Canela’s future looked uncertain. But fate stepped in just in time — thanks to the compassion of several rescue groups, volunteers, and a loving foster, Canela was saved and welcomed into the MAGSR family.

Since then, Canela has been thriving. She was initially placed with a wonderful temp foster family. They ensured she received the medical attention and love she needed, and even helped her take her first flight north to a new beginning! Knowing that Canela would benefit from continued support within a knowledgeable placement, she was placed with one of our amazing foster families. Canela is a gentle, affectionate girl who can be a little shy at first. It’s clear she hasn’t always known consistent love, but with patience and understanding, her warm, loving personality shines through. She’s learning the joys of being part of a home — things like structure, routine, and kindness have helped her blossom beautifully.

Cleo Grace’s journey hasn’t been easy. She was found as a stray and brought to a local shelter, carrying the weight of a difficult past. Her ears tell part of her story—one bears the scars of chronic infection, and the other shows signs of fly strikes. But while her body carries reminders of hardship, her heart is ready for healing.

Cleo Grace is like a little seed waiting to blossom. At first, she can be shy and unsure, but once she feels safe, she leans in close and buries her head into her handler’s chest—her way of saying “thank you for keeping me safe.”

Because new experiences can overwhelm her, Cleo Grace will do best in a quiet, calm home with patient adopters who can offer gentle guidance, structure, and consistency. This lovely lady found herself in the care of a rescue determined to place her in a safe and loving home. That rescue later reached out for help with some of the dogs in their care, and as we all know, teamwork makes the dream work, so MAGSR didn't think twice before stepping forward to assist.

Cloud is the kind of dog who leaves an impression you won’t soon forget. With her kind eyes, sweet spirit, and gentle way of moving through the world, it’s hard not to fall in love. A sensitive soul at heart, Cloud has been through a lot and responds best to slow, soft introductions and a gentle, patient handler - someone who understands that dogs who’ve had a tough past deserve the time and space to build trust. She’ll likely need a little more decompression time than most dogs when settling into a new space, but the rewards of her trust are well worth the wait. Given that a calmer, more consistent environment will help set her up for success, this sweetheart may struggle around little kids. 'Dashing Deacon’ was found prancing along the streets as a stray. Deacon is a devilishly handsome (possible SuperModel status) fella who is a two-and-a-half-year-old stunner of a long-haired black and red GSD looking for his ‘fur-ever’ family. Over time we have had the chance to get to know Deacon. With this knowledge has come a strong understanding of just how clever this boy is (and how much of a natural leader he is!). As a result, Deacon will only be placed with an experienced and assertive handler to help him become a strong, confident, and obedient companion. This striking boy has a strong personality and appreciates clear guidance from his people. Though he can be willful when he knows what he wants, Deacon is ready to channel his charm into becoming a model canine citizen. Already equipped with a solid training foundation, Deacon is looking for someone who will continue that training to build a confident and healthy bond. In fact, Deacon already knows his basic commands and then some. He can't wait to continue this process and may even be a good match for agility, fly ball, or scent work.

As a young, active shepherd, Deacon is looking for a family that can exercise his body and his mind on a daily basis. True of all shepherds, pent up energy can result in unwanted behaviors. Deacon loves playing tug of war with his toys, wrestling with his humans, and he even does great at doggy day care. However, as is true of all dogs, it is important that Deacon develop relationships with other dogs in controlled settings over a period of time.

Elegant Everest was picked up as a stray in the South and brought to a local shelter, where staff patiently waited for her family to come claim her. Sadly, like so many others, Everest wasn’t one of the lucky pups who got to go home. When no one stepped forward, shelter staff began searching for the right placement, and for a moment it seemed Everest had finally found her forever family. But within two weeks, she was back—confused, heartbroken, and unsure what had gone wrong. Knowing Everest deserved a family who would truly commit to her, shelter staff reached out to breed-specific rescues for help. When our team learned she needed a safe option to move forward, we knew the MAGSR family was the right fit.

Everest is a friendly, sensitive girl who has bounced around more than any dog should. She adores being near her people and is wonderfully attentive, but her past experiences have left her a bit timid during introductions. Give her a little time, patience, and a few tasty treats, and her warm, affectionate personality begins to shine. While much of her past is unknown, it’s clear someone invested in her early socialization. Everest is unbothered by the other dogs in her foster home and enjoys being near both people and animals. She reads canine cues well and thrives in a pack environment. Already housebroken and crate trained, she has a solid start on the basics of living in a home. As with any newcomer, she’ll need time to adjust to her forever family’s routines, but she is eager to learn and aims to please.

Everest is highly food-motivated and loves both treats and praise. She sits politely when asked and is beginning to learn additional basic commands. Continued training will be essential to her confidence and success. It will also help Everest develop a healthy bond with her forever family. Medically, Everest arrived heartworm positive—a completely preventable condition had she been given proper monthly prevention. Thankfully, the diagnosis was made early, her treatment is underway, and she’s handling it with grace. She seems to understand that with just a bit more time and patience, she’ll be ready for a fresh start.

Goose is one of those lucky pups whose life could have gone very differently — but thanks to a series of kind hearts and perfect timing, he's safe, loved, and ready for his forever home.

Goose’s journey started before he was even born. His mom, a stray in the South, was found starving and alone. Thankfully, an incredible family took her in, tried everything to find her original home, and when no one came forward, gave her the safety and love she so desperately needed. Just weeks later, she surprised everyone with eight beautiful puppies — Goose being one of them. Goose and his siblings were raised in a warm, loving home with their mom. One by one, his brothers and sisters found homes... and Goose waited. Knowing he deserved a bright future, the family reached out to MAGSR, and a wonderful foster family stepped in to help him take his next steps.

Goose is sweet, curious, and full of potential. He’s great with other dogs and is learning all about the comforts of home life: toys, treats, cozy beds, and couch cuddles. He’s had some exposure to new people and places, but continued socialization will be essential to helping him grow into a confident, well-rounded adult. Like all puppies, Goose will need time, training, and patience. He may chew, have accidents, or get into mischief — but with structure and love, he’ll reward you with a lifetime of loyalty and affection.

Not every dog gets to spend their life curled up on a couch, showered with affection, and surrounded by family. Ivy’s story is a reminder of just how resilient dogs can be — even when life hasn't always been as kind as you may hope.

Though Ivy has known human kindness, she has never known the comfort of a true home until now. She came to MAGSR having never lived in a home, yet her soulful eyes and calm presence speak of a dog who still believes in love. Physically, Ivy carries the weight of a life spent giving more than she received. Her body shows signs of many litters, untreated medical conditions, and severe arthritis. When her pain became too much to ignore, a decision was made to give Ivy the care she so desperately needed — and she joined the MAGSR family.

One of our amazing senior foster families immediately stepped up, giving Ivy her very first taste of home: a comfortable household, soft beds, quiet spaces, and unconditional love. Despite her past, Ivy is gentle, affectionate, and slowly learning the joys of being a beloved companion. She enjoys short walks, tasty treats, and has recently discovered the magic of dog beds.

But Ivy's journey is far from over. Upon arrival, she was diagnosed with:

• Severe arthritis in her front left leg, causing her significant pain and lameness
• A skin infection requiring treatment before other procedures could take place
• Ulcerated tumors and masses on her chest and belly
• Underweight frame, which needed to be addressed before surgery could commence

This week, Ivy bravely underwent a complicated hysterectomy, had several masses removed, and began treatment to address her discomfort. Radiographs of her joins and chest were taken to determine the extent of her needs. Consultations with specialists also took place. At this time biopsy results are pending, and more invasive care may be needed. Despite everything, Ivy remains calm, loving, and endlessly patient — a true testament to her spirit. She is wearing her surgical pajamas like a champ, is adjusting to the cone and pro collar, and has been very patient when going through daily clean up and care. Ivy isn’t available for adoption just yet, but she will be — once she’s strong, healthy, and ready for the next chapter of her life.

Ivy is an exceptional girl who we know is worth every dime. 

Handsome Joey was picked up as a stray in the south with a few other dogs. Fortunately, he was brought into the care of a southern rescue while they waited out his stray hold. When no one stepped forward for this sweet boy, the rescue began looking for an adoptive placement. Although Joey is clearly an incredible boy, with adoptions on the decline across the country and the number of dogs needing placement increasing, Joey was being looked over. Knowing this boy would be more successful in a different region, a plea for help with a rescue transfer was sent out. MAGSR was lucky to have an amazing foster home step forward for Joey so that he could move forward.

Joey is an absolute doll. As a stunning guy, he is already turning heads with his oversized ears, long tail, and joyful personality. It is clear that this guy was given opportunities to socialize with both people and dogs at some point along his journey which has resulted in a solid foundation. Typical for a young shepherd, Joey is both intelligent and active. He loves to run and play in the yard, enjoys goofing around with other dogs, and is beyond happy to join in on daily adventures. As he moves forward, it will be important that his forever family exercise both his body and his mind on a daily basis. This will help Joey maintain his impressive personality. Still developing basic commands and leash manners, training will go a long way with this boy. Not only will it help him develop a lasting bond with his forever family, but it will also help him develop into a good canine citizen. 

As a young, eager-to-learn pup, Joey truly thrives with consistent routines, clear structure, and ongoing positive training. This set-up is effective for developing confidence and clear expectations. Marlo is a stunning German Shepherd with a heart as big as his paws. He showed up at a country home down south and was reported as a stray, but when no one came for him, it became clear that Marlo was searching for something more—a family. He chose an incredibly kind home to visit and quickly showed what a wonderful dog he is. Marlo was great with the children, respectful of cats, and got along well with other dogs. One of his favorite things? The moment you approach him, he eagerly drops, rolls over, and offers his belly for scratches—clearly a professional at soaking up affection.

Although we don't know much about his past, it is clear that someone took the time to provide this boy with a solid foundation. Marlo is quiet and well-mannered in his crate and truly enjoys going for walks. Sadly, like many dogs from the south, Marlo is heartworm positive. The good news is that MAGSR covers all of his heartworm treatment, so his future family can focus on loving him and helping him heal. This boy is already moving forward with his care. Marlo will need to take it easy over the next few months while his body heals. However, as he is already a pro with the crate and responsive to the handler, Marlo is the perfect patient. Mavis is a joyful, energetic 6-month-old pup with a heart as big as her personality. Always ready to play, explore, and make new friends, she truly is the life of the party. From the moment shelter staff met her after she was picked up as a stray in the South, they knew Mavis was something special—a little spark of endless joy in an overcrowded shelter full of dogs needing help. Fearing she might be overlooked due to overcrowding, a plea was sent out for her. While many rescues were already overwhelmed, our team stepped forward with a plan, and Mavis walked out the shelter doors and into the MAGSR family.

With a solid social foundation already in place, Mavis has learned that many people are just as excited to say hello as she is. Continued socialization will be key to her success, as she benefits from positive experiences with new people, animals, and environments. She is a smart, curious girl who learns quickly and loves people of all sizes. Mavis adores kids and has a playful spirit, though—like most young pups—she is still learning her manners. With training, structure, and clear boundaries, she could be a wonderful companion for a child to grow up with and a true best friend.

Mavis does best with a calm, confident leader and often looks to her handler for reassurance, especially when encountering new sounds or situations. As a former stray, she can be a bit skittish at times, but with confidence-building and continued positive exposure, she continues to thrive and grow.

Thanks to time in a fantastic temporary foster home, we’ve learned that Mavis already has great house skills. She is housebroken, crate trained, and polite on leash. She takes care of business right away when outside and will sit patiently while waiting for her leash to be removed—though, as a young pup, she can get a little excited if it takes too long! Occasionally, the world is just a bit too exciting and she may dash suddenly on leash, but overall she is learning quickly. Mavis enjoys relaxing with her people and has a love-hate relationship with the TV—she likes to watch, but may react when animals or certain sounds appear. She’s incredibly affectionate and believes being a lap dog is a very serious job. Having been overcorrected in the past, Mavis may briefly retreat when told “no,” but she quickly bounces back, eager to give kisses and reassure herself that all is well.

Marvelous Maylee was found as a stray in the South and brought to a crowded shelter. Although it was clear she’d been well socialized with both people and other animals, no one ever came to claim her. With shepherds filling shelters and space running out, Maylee urgently needed a safe place to go. Thankfully, the staff saw how special she was and advocated for her. When we learned Maylee needed help and fast, our team stepped in to give this incredible girl the second chance she deserves.

Maylee is a smart, social, and eager-to-please young shepherd. Someone in her past clearly invested time in her—she’s treat-motivated, already knows several commands, and truly loves to work. Her ideal family will enjoy training and mental enrichment as much as she does. Like most shepherds, Maylee thrives when both her mind and body are exercised daily, which helps her feel confident, balanced, and happy. She’s very comfortable on leash and ready for any adventure: walks, hikes, or simply exploring the neighborhood. Maylee checks in with her handler often and takes direction beautifully. This is definitely a special little lady.

While we don’t know much about her past, we’re certain about her future: with patience, structure, and routine, Maylee will blossom. Training will not only help her continue developing good canine manners, but will also help her bond deeply with her new family. Lovely Moiraine was picked up as a stray with her pup and brought to a local shelter. Although both dogs were clearly well-socialized and friendly, they sat at the shelter without anyone stepping forward to claim them. Knowing that they were special dogs who would be most successful if placed with a breed specific rescue, the shelter reached out to MAGSR for help. They found the perfect placement for the pup but needed a home for Moiraine. Too many momma's get left behind far too often. Team MAGSR knew that we would find Moiraine the perfect placement and give this marevelous momma a loving home of her very own. Without a second thought, we welcomed Moiraine to the MAGSR family.

Moiraine is the picture of a true German Shepherd — intelligent, loyal, and devoted to her people. This beautiful mama dog embodies everything that makes the breed so special: she’s protective yet gentle, confident yet affectionate, and always eager to please. Since joining the MAGSR family, Moiraine has had the opportunity to socialize with a variety of people and has constantly impressed us with her social personality. She's a quick learner who will thrive with continued training, structure, and clear boundaries - the kind of dog who blossoms when given purpose and guidance. In fact, Moiraine has already begun to develop her basic obedience with one of our amazing training partners. She is developing leash manners and basic commands. Although we do not know much about Moiraine's past, we do know her future is bright!

Not all mothers get to bring their babies into the world surrounded by love, safety, and comfort. Sadly, Moonlight and her nine puppies — affectionately known as the Island Litter — were found in a heartbreaking state: malnourished, filthy, flea-infested, and utterly neglected. Confiscated by animal control and placed in a shelter, this vulnerable family was at high risk. But thanks to the quick work of compassionate rescuers and foster volunteers, they were pulled to safety.

From the moment Moonlight arrived in foster care, her strength and sweetness shone through. Despite the suffering she endured, she remained attentive to her pups and incredibly responsive to her caregivers. With medical care, nutritious food, and gentle handling, Moonlight and her babies began to heal — body and soul.

Today, Moonlight is thriving. She is smart, alert, affectionate, and energetic — everything you’d expect from a classic German Shepherd. She’s always ready for a new adventure and loves interactive time with her people. Her resilient spirit, loyal nature, and engaging personality make her truly special. As a dog with drive, Moonlight loves toys and activity — but she also has a strong prey instinct. For that reason, she is not a candidate for a home with cats or other small animals. When Morgan, a 12-year-old Shepherd mix, showed up at a local shelter, MAGSR recognized her as one of our own. Morgan was initially welcomed to MAGSR as a pup and had been adopted out many years ago. Although our team does everything in our power to ensure that MAGSR dogs find forever families that will love and cherish them for a lifetime, we do have systems in place to ensure that if one of our dogs is left behind that they are brought back to the MAGSR family. When Morgan was discovered, she was not alone — she had her little brother Milo, a two year old 8-pound Chihuahua mix, right by her side. A bit of an odd couple and at the same time an amazing pair, these two look to each other for safety, companionship, and stability. As MAGSR never leaves family behind, we made sure that little Milo joined the family too!

Morgan is as sweet as pecan pie — a gentle, loving senior girl with the kindest eyes and the softest spirit. She moves through life at a peaceful pace, happy to lean in for pets or nap the afternoon away. Milo, her little shadow, might be small but he has the heart of GSD. Devoted, spunky, and always keeping an eye on his big sister, Milo is a special little guy. Together, they make quite the pair — proof that love and loyalty come in all shapes and sizes.

These two were returned through no fault of their own. Fortunately, they made their way back to the MAGSR family where they are now ready to find a forever home together. These two deserve to live their lives out in an incredible home with one another. They are hoping to find a family that recognizes the importance of keeping families together; a family that appreciates the importance of their beautiful bond; and a family that will give them the comfort and stability all dogs deserve.

Reba, along with her sisters Lainey and Shaina, came from an accidental litter; one that we have affectionately named the Country Puppies. Born without the resources or care they needed, the girls spent their early days living outside without consistent attention or guidance. Recognizing that the puppies deserved a safer, healthier start, their owner made the responsible decision to surrender them to MAGSR. This gave each girl the chance to grow into a confident, stable adult with the support of a loving family.

Reba is a brave little sweetheart with a big heart and an even bigger desire for love. Despite her tough beginnings, she’s discovering just how wonderful the world can be—one cuddle, treat, and wagging tail at a time. Curious, affectionate, and eager to bond, she’s soaking up all the positive experiences she missed early on. Reba does have some natural alpha tendencies and can be opinionated. She has even attempted to herd the other two GSDs in her foster home. However, with time, patience, and consistent guidance, she is learning manners and basic commands. She’s dog-friendly and people-friendly, though cats may not be the best match for this lovely girl.

As adorable as she is, Reba is still very much a puppy. She will whine, have accidents, and keep you on your toes with endless puppy antics. But with training, routine, and plenty of opportunities to learn, Reba will grow into an amazing adult dog. Regal Rory was originally welcomed to the MAGSR family as a puppy. She was one of the Baseball Puppies. Having lived with an amazing foster family, Rory had developed a good foundation of social skills and was adopted into a loving household. Although her family had every intention of loving Rory for a lifetime, when a family dynamic shifted, the decision was made that it was in Rory's best interest to return her to the MAGSR family. Surrendering a cherished member of the family is never a decision that is made lightly. Rory's family adored her; however, they knew that she would be more successful if placed in a different home. We know this was not easy for Rory's family, but we promised to find her an incredible match so that she can move forward and meet with success. 

In many ways still a puppy, Rory is young, energetic, and curious about the world around her. However, having left the home she expected to remain in for the rest of her life, she is a little unsure right now. Recognizing that Rory will need some time to decompress and adjust to new people and environments, our team is working with her to help her meet with success. Rory's new family will need to ensure that she is given time, patience, structure, and routine in her new household. This will help lovely Rory thrive. Once comfortable, Rory is a playful and loving girl. She enjoys toys and loves to learn new tricks. When playtime is finished, Rory is an expert cuddler. She is a great balance of joy and affection. Having lived in a loving home, Rory understands many of the ins and outs of living in a household. She is both housebroken and crate trained. However, as is true of all new dogs, she will need time to learn the specific expectations of her new family. Training will be beyond helpful for Rory. Sweet Sage found herself in an incredibly tough situation in the South after being surrendered to an overcrowded shelter—one where many dogs step in but never get the chance to step back out due to a lack of space. Fate, however, had other plans. As Sage arrived, a local rescue volunteer happened to be walking out. Recognizing the danger Sage faced, she immediately began networking this lovely girl, determined to give her a chance at a future. At the same time, MAGSR was already in conversations about another dog at the same shelter. Knowing Sage had no other options, our team made the decision that saving two lives was better than saving one—and both girls joined the MAGSR family.

Sage is a beautiful young dog with a soft caramel-colored coat and an even sweeter personality. Just under a year old when she entered her temporary foster home in the South, Sage was underweight but incredibly affectionate. With full meals, a soft bed, and a consistent routine, she quickly began to thrive. It became clear that Sage already had some important skills—she is social, walks well on leash, and loves to lean in for cuddles. Though her past is unknown, it’s obvious someone showed her kindness along the way. She is comfortable with people and other animals, and while she occasionally needs redirection when she gets a little too playful with the resident cat, she responds well to guidance.

Sage impressed her foster family by excelling with crate training and making great progress with housebreaking. When she recently traveled north to her current foster home in the Mid-Atlantic, it was clear that she had been enjoying her daily meals—she had gained some healthy weight. Upon closer inspection, however, it became apparent that the extra pounds weren’t just from good food… Sage was pregnant. Still a puppy herself in many ways, sweet Sage arrived with more than one little passenger. Knowing she deserves to feel safe, calm, and comfortable while finishing out her pregnancy, one of our incredible foster families welcomed her in and is providing everything she needs to rest, nest, and prepare for motherhood. As Sage’s medical care is now being closely monitored, we also learned that she is heartworm positive—a diagnosis that could have been prevented with monthly heartworm prevention. Because treatment cannot begin until after her puppies are weaned, Sage will require careful monitoring over the coming months as she delivers, raises her babies, and later begins heartworm treatment. This care will be extensive and costly, but Sage is absolutely worth it. Please consider donating to support her ongoing medical needs.

Despite everything she’s been through, Sage remains a joyful, affectionate girl with a heart of gold. Because of her size, it’s easy to forget she’s still very much a puppy—and she does puppy things! Striking Sarge, like so many dogs, found himself in a large, overcrowded shelter—unsure where things had gone wrong on his journey. The staff cared deeply and wanted the best for this big-hearted guy, but with limited resources, nationwide drops in adoptions, and an overwhelming number of dogs arriving daily, they simply couldn’t keep up. They knew Sarge deserved more than they could offer, so they began reaching out to rescues up and down the coast in hopes of finding him a safe place to land. Fortunately, when one of our sister rescues received the call for help, Sarge’s story made its way to MAGSR. Our team knew we couldn’t leave this boy behind. Working closely with local groups, shelter volunteers, and transporters, we ensured Sarge made his way safely into the MAGSR family. Sometimes, teamwork truly makes all the difference for a dog in need.

Although Sarge was already known as a big boy, our team quickly realized he wasn’t quite big enough. With ribs showing, a dull coat in need of vitamins, and a good bath overdue, we jumped right in to give him the care he needed to move forward. Through it all, Sarge showed us what a friendly, social guy he is—already comfortable with both people and other dogs. Sarge has a solid foundation, and it’s important that his forever family continue to build on it as he settles into his new home. Food-motivated and eager to please, he loves practicing his commands and happily works for tasty treats. He learns quickly, and with consistent training, he will continue to shine. Sarge is still working on his leash manners and, if given the chance, will gladly pull you along for the ride. Training will be a game changer for this handsome boy—helping him become a well-mannered adult shepherd while strengthening the bond with his new family.

Although it’s clear someone loved Sarge at some point and invested in his early training, we don’t know anything about his past. Like any new dog, he will need time, patience, and a clear routine to help him settle in. Structure and leadership will help him thrive. Saxom is a truly special guy with a big heart and an even bigger spirit. He first arrived in MAGSR’s care a few years ago alongside his son, Ozzie, after tragedy struck — their family’s home was lost in a fire, and both boys were surrendered to a local shelter. Confused, scared, and struggling like so many German Shepherds do in that environment, Saxom and Ozzie needed help. MAGSR stepped in to give them the second chance they deserved. With time, patience, and love, both dogs thrived — finding families who adored them. Although we always hope every adoption is forever, sometimes life takes unexpected turns. And at MAGSR, we stand by our promise: “Once a MAGSR dog, always a MAGSR dog.”

When Saxom recently needed to come back to us, our team made sure he had a safe and loving foster home waiting. Upon his return, it was discovered that he had developed perianal fistula, a chronic inflammatory condition more common in German Shepherds. While this condition requires ongoing care and daily medication, our amazing team and his devoted foster family are committed to keeping Saxom comfortable and happy. Despite his medical needs, Saxom’s joyful spirit shines through every day. He loves his toys — especially his ball — and his foster family keeps the toy basket well-stocked to make sure playtime is never missed. As a senior gentleman, he enjoys a good balance of fun and rest, curling up on a cozy bed for pets and relaxation between play sessions.

Saxom’s care does come with significant costs — his medications, specialized food, and regular vet check-ins are all part of ensuring he stays healthy and happy. Shania, along with her sisters Reba and Lainey, came from an accidental litter. We are lovingly calling them the Country Puppies. Born without the resources or care they needed, the girls spent their early days living outside without consistent attention or guidance. Recognizing that the puppies deserved a safer, healthier start, their owner made the responsible decision to surrender them to MAGSR. This opened the door for each girl to grow into a confident, stable adult with the support of a loving family.

Shania is a brave little sweetheart with a big heart and an even bigger desire for love. Despite her tough beginnings, she’s discovering just how wonderful the world can be—one cuddle, treat, and wagging tail at a time. Curious, affectionate, and looking for direction, she’s finally experiencing the positive moments she missed early on. Shania can be a little shy with new people and unfamiliar environments. She’s still learning that new experiences can be fun and that people are typically kind. Her foster family is working diligently to help her build confidence, and she is responding beautifully to their leadership. As with all shepherds, training will go a long way in helping Shania grow. It will not only teach her the skills she needs to be a good canine citizen, but also help her form a strong, trusting bond with her forever family. With time, patience, and consistent guidance, Shania is opening up and showing her people her truly amazing personality.

Some dogs seem to go through more pain, hardship, and loss than we could fathom. If they could share their stories, people would be beyond surprised at how affectionate and charismatic so many of these dogs remain after having endured so much. Shotsy is one of those dogs. He is a true survivor. No one knows exactly what Shotsy went through prior to his arrival at animal control. We do know that people were not always kind to this big guy. Picked up as a stray, Shotsy was brought to an animal shelter that was sitting at critical capacity. The minute he walked in the door, he was in grave danger. With limited resources, extreme overcrowding, and a wealth of new sights, smells, and sounds, Shotsy was overwhelmed and wasn't showing well in the shelter environment. As a result, when his stray hold ended, Shotsy was moved to the list to be euthanized. At the last second, an incredible couple pulled Shotsy hoping to help him move forward. 

Recognizing that this senior boy needed some medical and social support, the couple got Shotsy everything he needed to meet with success. He had all of his medical needs addressed and even had a dental completed. He also had the chance to work with a trainer and start developing his manners. In addition, Shotsy had the opportunity to learn some of the ins and outs of living in a loving home with comfortable places to sleep and regular meals. Although the couple adored Shotsy, they knew that he needed a different type of household in order to meet with success. So, they made the decision to reach out to rescues for help to ensure that Shotsy could move forward safely with breed specific knowledge to support his success. 

Shotsy is a handsome and intelligent boy. He, like so many GSDs, reads the handler very well, quickly determining what he can and cannot get away with. With a calm, confident, and controlled handler, Shotsy shines. He adjusts well to clear rules, structure, and boundaries; however, like any typical GSD, he will try to take advantage of the situation if the opportunity presents itself. As a dominant male, Shotsy is happy to take on the role of alpha if given the opportunity. Already knowing several commands, Shotsy likes to work and appreciates having high expectations. Although this guy has had some training already, continued training will be key to his success. Training will not only help Shotsy develop a balanced and healthy relationship with his forever family, but it will also help him develop the skills needed to become a good canine citizen. A playful guy at heart, Shotsy is hoping that his forever family has plenty of toys. Toys that squeak and balls are some of his favorites. A handler with a good throwing arm sounds like a perfect match to Shotsy. When playtime is over each day, his perfect evening involves a good meal, a brushing, and a belly rub before bed.

She’s happiest when she’s part of the action, whether that’s going for a run, playing in the yard, or just soaking up affection from her favorite humans. She’s loyal, full of personality, and has an infectious zest for life that makes every day brighter. Sim is simply all about enjoying every ounce of life. As is true of the breed, particularly younger GSDs, Sim will thrive with continued training, clear boundaries, and consistent structure. She knows how to sit and shake paws, but she’s still working on perfecting her potty training and leash manners. Her curiosity sometimes gets the best of her—she may zigzag on walks, pull ahead to investigate something fascinating, or stubbornly stop when something catches her eye—but with patience, direction, and positive reinforcement, she’s eager to learn and please.

At home, Sim is a bundle of energy and curiosity. She doesn’t guard her food, toys, or space and plays well with other dogs, though her enthusiasm can sometimes overwhelm those who want quiet time. Sim is definitely not a couch potato. With this in mind, she is still working on understanding boundaries and can get herself into a bit of mischief. Sim has been known to chew on household items, dig in the yard or trash, and even counter surf for interesting objects (though not food!). She’s also quite the clever girl—when she needs to go outside, she’ll sometimes try to open doors herself by standing on her hind legs and turning the knob. She’s not crate trained yet and can’t have bedding or blankets, as she enjoys tearing them apart, but with time and guidance, she’ll learn what’s hers to play with. When provided with clear rules, routines, and structures, Sim will shine. 

Sim’s best qualities are her friendly, loving spirit and her playful energy. She adores people and always wants to be involved in what’s going on. She would thrive in a home that can give her plenty of exercise, affection, and patient training. She’s beautiful, smart, and full of potential—what more could you ask for? I’m Stone, and I’ve had quite the "ruff" journey. After being picked up as a stray in the south, I made my way to the Mid-Atlantic so that I would have a real chance at a forever home at least that's what they told me. To be honest, I had been feeling a little lost and low; it just seemed like nothing was going my way. But, those days are behind me now, and I’m ready for my next chapter. I’m about four years old, up-to-date on all my vaccines, and loving life again. Especially, since I found my way to the MAGSR family. 

Although it's clear I am one handsome dude, I’m also a total social butterfly—I love people and always want to be part of the action. With what they say is a solid foundation of social skills, whatever that means, I get lots of opportunities to meet new people and dogs too. Sometimes, I even attend doggy daycare where I enjoy my time with a variety of doggy personalities. As a southern guy, I’m getting used to the colder weather up north, and I can’t wait to see my first snow! I just know I’m going to love it who wouldn't, right? Just like all shepherds, I’ll thrive with training and consistency, and I’m eager to learn and make my humans proud. Since I'm an active guy, I’ll do best in a home with a yard to play in, where I can stretch my legs, chase toys, and enjoy the sunshine.

Hi Everyone! My name is Stryder but I prefer “Stry Guy” because then I know I am not in trouble. A lucky guy, I spent 9 months with my last family, They absolutely adored me, but they had to return me to MAGSR when the older male in the house and I could not get along. I was fabulous with the resident female dog. This was a difficult decision for all of us; however, my family knew that MAGSR would take care of me and ensure that I found an incredible forever family. 

In dog years, I am a teenager so, I have been building a good foundation, but I still have plenty to learn. For example, I love the water - squirt guns, hoses, lakes – but I am a big boy and I'm still fine tuning my understanding of which water is for play and which is not. According to my people, the water dish isn't a tiny pond for my enjoyment. I'm still not convinced they are correct. When not enjoying water time, I am beyond happy to dive into the toy bin and play. I adore chew toys like antlers and tough stuffed animals. I try to remember that the squeaky parts stay inside the toy, but sometimes their removal is simply too tempting and those squeaky parts accidently fall out. If you want to play with me, you are always welcome.  I like to play fetch and I'm always ready for a game of tug of war as long as clear boundaries are set. Fortunate to have begun training class, I am a shiny star in obedience school. In my previous home, I was participating in two classes a week to prepare for intermediate obedience classes. I was also on track to pass my Canine Good Citizen class. I love going to class because I can ride in the car, learn new things, and get lots of treats. Continued training is what they call "critical to my success." As I can be a little nervous in new situations, they tell me it will help me continue to build confidence, I also think it will help me better understand my new family. 

As a teenager, I am realizing that I like to be the boss and would prefer to be the only male dog in the house. I mean really, who doesn't want a leadership role? I got along great with my foster sister. She is a GSD too. I have also enjoyed going to doggy camp and playing with my canine buddies. Apparently, I am still very "puppy-like" whatever that means. All I know is I enjoy daily playtime, walks, and opportunities to get out my zoomies. After I get all the wiggles out, I have to admit, I love lounging - especially when everyone settles in the evening. However, as is true of all GSDs, I will thrive in an environment with structure, routine, and leadership. I have so much love to give and want to share it with my new family.

This lovely lady was in an overcrowded shelter, and just before her time was up, she was rescued by another group dedicated to making sure she's placed in a safe and loving home. That rescue later reached out for help with some of the dogs in their care, and as we all know, teamwork makes the dream work, so MAGSR didn't think twice before stepping forward to assist.

Taffy has been lucky to land in a foster home where she's finally getting the opportunities a young, energetic girl needs. Her amazing fosters have been helping her learn about the joys of being a puppy and taking in the world around her. With her fresh, sponge-like mind, this resilient girl is learning housebreaking, crate training, and polite behaviors that will lay the foundation for a well-mannered adult life. While she is still fine-tuning general manners on leash, she's got a great start and will benefit significantly as all young dogs do from continued training. Living with older rescue dogs, Taffy is quickly learning the ins and outs of pack life. She gets along really well with the other dogs and wouldn't mind landing in a forever home with another friendly pup to play with - or at least more consistent socialization so she can keep learning to speak 'dog'! Highly intelligent and observant, Taffy notices everything around her. She loves adults but struggles around small children. Without a high prey drive, she did well when tested with a cat; in fact, she was more afraid of the cat than anything else. With structure, routine, leadership, and clear expectations from a calm and confident handler, Taffy will blossom into an amazing adult. She'd like to continue her daily physical and mental exercise, all while building and strengthening her bond with her forever family - could that be you?

Woody comes to us under heartbreaking circumstances after his beloved dad passed away. He was deeply loved and well cared for, and it shows in his gentle spirit and joyful nature. Now, this handsome boy is looking for a new family who will not only love him for a lifetime but will also help him heal his broken heart. 

Woody is an impressive boy. He is incredibly social and gets along wonderfully with dogs of all breeds and sizes. He’s the kind of pup who can walk into any playgroup and make instant friends. Typical of the breed, he is also an active, and fun-loving boy. Always up for a good time, Woody absolutely lives for a good ball toss and enjoys going for walks. Lovely Zazoo lived in a loving home with kids and another dog. Unfortunately, when the family was unable to remain in their home, they could not find housing that would allow them to keep their dogs. As a result, they made the difficult decision to surrender the dogs to a local shelter. This is never an easy decision. However, sometimes families have simply run out of options. Shelter staff welcomed Zazoo into their care and made sure she had everything she needed to meet with success. Unfortunately, with shelters sitting at or above capacity, staff knew that Zazoo would be most successful if she was placed within a breed specific rescue. Knowing Zazoo would be a great addition to the MAGSR family, our team was thrilled to welcome her. 

Zazoo is a stunning girl. Friendly, active, and smart this lady truly embodies the traits of a GSD. As is true of most shepherds, Zazoo will be most successful in a home that will exercise both her body and her mind on a daily basis. This will help her maintain her stable and confident personality. Having lived in a home previously, Zazoo did well with the children in the home. However, as is typical of the breed, she can be protective of the household. With some clear prey drive in place, Zazoo is not suited for a home with small animals or cats. She is already housebroken, crate trained, and knows many of the ins and outs of living in a home. It is important that her forever family, provide her with structure, routine, and leadership so that Zazoo can adapt to the expectations of her forever home. Well aquainted with toys, Zazoo loves to play and can entertain herself or interact with others. 

Although Zazoo lived in a home, she does need to learn some leash manners. Our team is already starting this process. Training will go a long way with Zazoo. Not only will training help her develop the skills needed to become a good canine citizen, it will also help her build a strong and healthy bond with her forever family.
