Success Stories

This is what we are all about.

When we place a dog in a great home, everyone in the rescue is elated. Nothing feels better than helping our dogs on their journey to find a forever home where they can love and be loved.

We thank every one of our adoptive families for opening their hearts and homes to our dogs.

These are the most recent MAGSR Success Stories. Success Stories reported prior to 2016 can be found here.

Willow

Willow

Willow was adopted August 5, 2017 and just turned 1 on October 17th. We recently finished a six week obedience class and we just started another round of obedience. Our goal is for her to get her CGC in the future. Willow loves the water, long walks, and playing ball. We continue to work on socialization with both people and dogs.

Camden

Camden is a fun-loving, belly-stratch loving little man. He has brought so much joy and love to our lives. Cam loves playing fetch, sprinting laps around the yard, spending time in his pool and napping. We could not be more grateful for the amazing work MAGSR has provided to Camden, our family and the countless other pups and families they have touched. We can't thank you enough for bringing this little sweet faced guy to us!

Ruger and Barron

We adopted Ruger in August of 2009 and have been in love with him since day one. He continues to be the sweet boy as described in his bio and wants nothing more then to be laying by your side at all times. Even in his old age he continues to to have the same spunk and energy he had when we first got him. Barron (aka Graden) was adopted in October 2014 and has kept us laughing and smiling since the day we brought him home. Barron is full of love and loves us and Ruger more then we thought was possible! He is sure to give us daily kisses and keep us laughing with his goofy personality. He loves spending as much time outside as he can and carrots are his favorite treats!

Stella (fka Bertha)

I've had her for 1 yr and 7 months now. We just moved from Baltimore to Chicago and she is doing great! The picture is from Montrose Dog Beach where she loves to run and play with other dogs, or fetch a toy. She was in water for the first time and I learned she can swim! I get so many compliments on what a beautiful dog she is and I always make sure they know where she came from and that she is a rescue. My hope is that others will rescue too. Thank you MAGSR!

Jax
Jax

Jax

Hi, my name is Jax! I am a three year old black lab/German shepherd mix. I was found with my four sisters and mom when I was less that a month old and was fostered by Mid-Atlantic German Shepherd Rescue. When I was 4 months old, I was adopted by my mom and dad on January 10, 2014. It was love a first sight (I have that effect on humans). Both mom and dad are big believers in well behaved puppies, so they started me on training. I competed basic, intermediate, and advanced. I also got my Canine Good Citizenship certificate. Mom and dad make sure I get to play with lots of other dogs by going to K-9 Camp daycare a few times a week. When I was a year old, mom signed up to join Wags for Hope. She went to orientation and the education classes without me then we had the evaluation, which I got to go to. She was very nervous because I'm a wild dog at home (or so she claims), that she made sure we went last so no one would be there to see me act up. Boy I fooled her! I was on my best behavior and ROCKED the exam. Since then I've been visited nursing homes, assisted living homes and the READ program in libraries. I really enjoy people so mom decided to test for Level II which would allow me to visit FMH. We tested for Level II in November 2016 and once again I was a very well behaved pup and passed the evaluation.  We've been visiting the hospital and I love seeing the patients and staff. Mom is very proud of me and constantly brags on what a good pup I am. I am very lucky to have a wonderful family and a job I enjoy.

Cinder
Cinder

Cinder

Cinder has definitely come into her own in our family. When we first brought her home, she was not much of a people person. She played with Macey some and mostly did her own thing. Now, she is always cuddling with one of us or following us around the house. She knows this is her home. Cinder is quite spoiled, and loves her treats. We found out she does have early hip dysplasia, but it's very early and she's still very active. It doesn't stop her from hikes, going to the dog park, or wrestling with her fur sister. We are VERY thankful for your organization, and are always pointing people your way. Thank you for bringing our baby into our lives!!

He brings us so much joy and we can tell how happy he is to have a good home. I'm attaching a few photos to show his progress in getting to a healthy weight (he LOVES to eat) and how much his adopted-sister Ava loves having him around. Thank you so much for everything you do!!   Best, Sarah

Komet (fka Tate)

Hi. This is John Grgurich. My wife, son, and I recently adopted Tate. He's working out beautifully, and his foster, Nancy Stett, was a big help in the process. I've already communicated how well Tate, now Komet, is doing with us, but I also wanted to pass along a pic and a video of the lad to you; I know MAGSR likes to post these kinds of things on its site.   Cheers, and thanks again for all you do. Komet is a good lad, and we're happy to have him.   John   p.s., The pic is my son Jack, with Komet and Floss our Border Collie mix, in the back of my wife's car.

Happy Holidays from Stella and Boomer.  It’s been a little over a year since I adopted Stella from MAGSR.  Since then she has graduated from obedience school and has adjusted well to life in the city.  She’s full of energy, loves to run & play with other dogs and is good at playing fetch.  As you can see in the picture she still has the helicopter ears which has earned her the nickname “the flying nun” amongst my friends, but they all also admit she is a beautiful dog.  Thank you- for all the work you do for dogs!

Bella
Bella

Bella

We adopted Bella in July 2011. We did not change her name. She had come from Detroit - her owner surrendered her and sent her via airplane to MAGSR. We were her foster family, and then she stayed!  Bella has some allergies (leaf mold is her worst irritant) and immunotherapy didn't work for her. May - November she is perfectly fine; from about Thanksgiving until Mother's Day she stays on Apoquel to keep down the itching.  Other than that, Bella is a super smart, cuddly, athletic dog. She is slowing down a little at age 8. Now a 2-3 mile walk actually puts a dent in her energy, whereas a few years ago that would have just been the warm-up! From her behaviors and her appearance once she filled out, I strongly suspect she is a Belgian Malinois mix; probably mixed with a pointer or other tall hound.  This photo is from a trip we took this summer with both Bella and her adopted bro Chief. Chief is a miracle boy. We adopted him from our county shelter three years ago at age 10. On March 5, 2015 he collapsed after eating breakfast. Later that day he had emergency surgery to remove his spleen. Biopsy showed he had had a bleeding tumor which was a hemangiosarcoma. Vets at the emergency center said he had maybe 3-6 months to live.   That was 18 months ago, and now at age 13 he still walks a couple miles a day with us, chases balls like a puppy, and wrestles with Bella as much as she can stand!  Our trip was a road trip from Maryland to Niagara Falls (yep - the pups went international!) and then out to Wyoming and back.  Over 5000 miles in two weeks. They traveled like champs, and we found parks, walking trails, pet-friendly restaurants and motels all across the country! :)  I think this photo was at about day 8 of the trip, on the front porch of a KOA camping cabin, as the dogs were getting a little suspicious about loading up into the SUV yet again...  Carolyn and Dan Matthews

Sandor (fka Sammie)
Sandor (fka Sammie)

Sandor (fka Sammie)

We adopted Sandor (fka Sammie) in May 2016, over our birthday weekend. He's named after the character, The Hound, in Game of Thrones. Despite his namesake, he is the most gentle, docile, and loving companion. We wanted a dog for years but waited until we were more settled and financially stable. I made the decision to adopt a dog after I returned home from an Afghanistan deployment, and I couldn't imagine coming home to a better babe. Now that we're together, he goes everywhere with us. We like to cruise and listen to his favorite songs. He likes Tay Swift. We've hit up all the dog parks and dog-friendly restaurants in Arlington. He's great with people, dogs, and kids. I'm just worried he might lick them to death. He's the chillest; so chill, we might have to go back to my home of SoCal because he's too cool for Arlington. He's not even scared of fireworks. He graduated in basic obedience from WOOFS! near Ballston and attends occasional doggy day care with all of his homies at Whole Dogz in Alexandria. We love him forever, more than whatever. Thank you for bringing him into our lives. Mickey Cohen & Safi Rauf
